History of VP

In the past, veterinarians were forced to purchase veterinary medical supplies directly from multiple suppliers and manufacturers. This meant countless hours spent looking for the right product and negotiating the best price, often having to purchase larger quantities than desired. Finally, an ambitious group of Ontario veterinarians decided there had to be a better way.

The idea was simple: they needed a veterinarian owned purchasing and distribution facility that could provide everything they needed to practice veterinary medicine, harness their buying power to guarantee a fair price, and give them one bill to pay. Such a service would decrease administrative overhead and give them more time to do what they loved—practice veterinary medicine.

Their vision led to the creation of Veterinary Purchasing, the first veterinarian owned, member-based buying group in Canada. Since 1972, VP has maintained its mandate of prompt delivery of veterinary medical supplies to its members at a fair price. Starting in a warehouse of only 6,000 sq. ft., VP has expanded to over 172,000 sq. ft., making it Canada’s single largest veterinary distribution centre in the animal health industry. From the facility in St. Marys, Ontario, VP delivers over 2,000 orders daily in their iconic green totes, to over 2,000 member practices. Today, VP builds upon its original mandate. In addition to delivering veterinary medical supplies, VP also provides access to business-oriented services. VP understands that today’s veterinary clinic landscape is competitive. By providing business support options, VP strives to assist clinics with becoming as successful as possible.
